EV App Case Study, Tesla Redesign
Why EV Application? Why Tesla?
Electric vehicles are rising in popularity, with new models and incentives enticing drivers away from gasoline-dependent transportation. The “Big Three” American car manufacturers are revving up electric vehicle production with orders at the ready while charging facilities are scaling in number and quality.
The forthcoming boon in electric vehicle use could mean unprecedented demands on the power grid, so responsible usage in place of innovation to utilize electric vehicles to feed back into the grid.
While total US auto sales were only slightly up in 2021 – 3.4% over the previous year – in comparison, electric vehicle sales soared by 85%. That trend has continued into 2022, with first-quarter sales increasing 60% over the same period in 2021, even as sales of internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles (vehicles that don't need a plug) dipped 18%. Introducing more models, especially pick-ups and SUVs, will only accelerate the trajectory, with dozens of new models expected in every category in the next few years.
"With charging infrastructure in sight and massive investment underway, the path is now clear for rapid growth, accelerated by car companies’ readiness to deliver vehicles seemingly in demand."

So as we know, the market is growing so fast and people are using Electric Vehicles. So they need the best digital product to find charging stations, control their vehicles, and enjoy a clean environment.
Double Diamond,
A method to quickly understand the situation and strike 💎
Did you ask yourself, What is the best EV App? What app should you use to find EV charging stations?
We reviewed some of the best applications for EV owners; Tesla, Mercedes, Hyundai, Ford, Bonnet, ChargePoint, ChargeHub, Chargeway, and EVGO with EV users and their thoughts to figure out what they need and how these applications help them to use their EV.
After a month of User Research, Reading all the app stores’ comments, and benchmarking our team found what they're needed and decided to redesign a new Tesla Application based on our research and improve the user experience and change the whole of the Service Design based on the observations, user needs and playing with the data.
At Dmazing Digital Product Studio, We used the double diamond method to redesign. We redesigned the main flows: Dashboard to use all the features just with the thumb, Battery usage summary, charging stations, In-App Navigation, and Climate Control.
In the middle of the research, our team figures out that some of the users don’t know how to find their EV problems and how to solve minor issues or how to tell their car's problem to the mechanics, So we create a new feature; Diagnostic in the application which helps users to find the car problems in a moment without using any diagnostic machine.
Iconography,
An Interface powered up with sharp, modern, and alive inclusive Icons 🚀
The redesign version needed Icons in different modes, like; (On, Off, Selected, Deselected, ...) to optimize the application behavior, So we developed a unique icon style to present the application features.
Proudly our icons are a customized version of the My Icon Package.
Colors,
Sometimes Normal is more than Amazing...🎨
wireframes,
To make sure that the User Experience is amazingly smooth and nothing is missed.
Follow the car's path to figure out User Flow.
User Interface,
We combined 3D, Motion, Interaction, and desirable User Interface Design to create a fit-and-finish product.
Tools,
Work on the edge to reach beyond.
An Idea it's not complete without the skills required to make it happen.
