Shinsuke Nakamura

This typographic portrait was a college project I designed for my Typography class. I chose professional wrestler, Shinsuke Nakamura, as my portrait because he is one of my favorite wrestlers to watch on WWE NXT, which I was heavily watching. I loved his reign as NXT champion so I wanted to use an image of him with the belt.

I also choose to turn this into a black-and-white image to match his monumental moment. For the font, I chose Broadway because I wanted it to be bold! He has such a flashy personality so I wanted a font that made a strong statement but is still readable. In the portrait are words that highlight his accomplishments such as becoming the youngest-ever IWGP champion at only 23, because I wanted viewers who don't watch wrestling or know him to know what he has accomplished. The prominent "X" on his belt serves to draw attention to his noteworthy achievement. I love that WWE designed the belt this way, unique and ironically, it matches his personality; bold and distinctive.
