RestoringLeaders.org Redesign

Part 1: Analyze the Business & Current Site

About the Business

RestoringLeaders.org helps burned out ministry leaders go back to their roots and find their “why” again. Through 1:1 mentoring, Restoration Retreats, or self-paced online courses, Tom helps leaders reset, refocus, and heal from past hurts.

Simplifying the Message with StoryBranding

To begin the website refresh, I had Tom (the client & owner) complete a worksheet I created based on the StoryBrand framework. The goal of the StoryBrand framework is to simplify and clarify the product or message that you’re trying to sell.

This helps me understand the business and gives me the ability to highlight the most important elements of what a company is trying to communicate and sell.

Site Map Before & After

To ensure I met all of the functional business needs with the redesign, I mapped out the site as it currently was, then worked to remove unnecessary links or pages.

Home page Before the Redesign

Before the redesign, the website featured a dark, full-sized image, with white and orange text. The text immediately jumped into the process for how Tom helps leaders.

The navigation bar featured a "Burnout Prevention Guide," but the text would be unreadable after scrolling down the page.

Scrolling further down lead to links with information about the methods Tom sells, some testimonies, and a link to his Facebook page.

The mobile version of the site was functional, but suffering from formatting problems.

Part 2: Brainstorming

Competitor Analysis

To begin the wireframing & prototyping steps, I took some time to review some similar businesses for mental health wellness or therapy. They have similar goals in helping people with their mental wellness, and I thought it was best to go for a similar feel, creating a safe, welcoming environment that encourages a person to ask for help if they need it.

Conceptualize Ideas

After understanding the business and its competitors, I began to work with the client to come up with some ideas that would clarify his message, but also maintain the impressions he'd like to make. We went through a few different iterations, but eventually struck a balance between how he wanted it to look, while also keeping the StoryBrand framework in mind.

Part 3: Finalizing the Design & Building

The final design can be seen below. It features fresh font choices and colors based around the company's logo. It roughly follows the 60-30-10 color rule, with white being the main color, the brand's blue being a secondary color, and a very dark blue (almost black) for all of the text. I wanted to make sure everything was simple, easy to understand, and accessible.

I'm not a programmer (maybe eventually I will be, haha), but I was able to build the website in WordPress and with Divi. I'm more familiar with Webflow, but was able to pickup Divi quickly.
