Design Is Hard

A logo for a new Substack series and newsletter written primarily by John Wayne Hill. I wanted this logo to be playful, a little wrong, but still good.

Logo

I created this logo based upon two things. First is the ups and downs of design. Second were arrows and highlights for the wordmark itself. The first highlight the "D" of Design" and the second pointing to the word "Hard" in the wordmark.

Wordmark

For the wordmark portion of the logo I decided upon a rather busy and unique font called Porter Sans Block. It was created by Ty Finck back in 2013 and I love how unique it is with the drop shadow and the outline.

Final Design

After a few iterations and some feedback from fellow designers, I decided this font was my final selection. With a few details like an inner shadow on the logo and a drop shadow on the wordmark, I found something that uniquely suited my new Substack, Design Is Hard. Check it out!
