American singer-songwriter and pianist (b.1933-2003)

This illustration features as the cover art for a Spotify mixtape I made from Simone's discography. I chose songs that either spoke to me on a personal level or were tracks Simone was renowned for performing.

I'm still honing my portraiture skills and testing out different styles that feel most authentic to me.

With this image especially, I was inspired by the elegant line work and flat colours found in the paintings of Japanese artist Ichiro Tsuruta.
