Skift Megatrends

Brief/ Develop and lead the creative direction for 2022’s Skift Megatrends, an annual report forecasting top trends that define the travel industry. Other assets included a fully designed website that was shipped to and built by in-house developers, digital assets for online streaming platform called Spotme, and layout design and illustrations for digital pdf report.

Role/ Creative Director, Web & UI Designer, and Graphic Designer

In my search for captivating visuals, I sought out imagery that featured predominantly silhouetted forms and figures, with a deliberate blurring of lines between geometric, cosmic shapes and human elements present in the composition.

Together with the creative team, we brainstormed ways to present what’s normally a print report, as a digestible and notable digital experience. We adapted the table of contents into stacked rows where the reader can scroll and navigate to the stories they wish to read. The normally static illustrations were recreated as floating dynamic scenes and the sidebar made it easy for users to jump from their reading experience to watching event highlights or downloading the official digital report as a pdf.

To ensure the timeline constraints and technical feasibility of our vision, we aligned with the Chief Product Officer and Engineering Manager as early in the process as possible.

This is Skift's largest collective editorial project of the year so aligning with stakeholders during all phases of production was key. Receiving at least 75% of the content from editors before designing ensured a more efficient production.

Online event participants had the opportunity to fully experience Megatrends through the Spotme platform. They could seamlessly livestream the event, network with top-tier industry professionals and experts, peruse sponsor showcases, and easily access session recordings. Ensuring that the digital signage reflected and exceeded the level of dynamism as in-person conferences and print collateral was of utmost importance to maintain the event's energy and impact.
