Voices Speaker Series

Voices is a message series that features a different guest speaker every week. Typically we create art around a theme or concept being discussed, but in this case we wanted to focus on the speakers. I approached the design a little more like a conference, creating a system to feature photos of the speakers.

This created some unique challenges in that we needed to be able to present this both as a series, and as individual messages. For some uses we needed art that included photos, but in some cases this wasn't feasible.

For each speaker, I chose a different featured color and shuffled the color of the other elements to create more distinction.

One of the challenges with using speaker photos is that I had to find a way to work with whatever images were provided to me, all varying in quality and resolution. This wavy halftone style helped them feel more consistent while also creating a distinct style element in the art.

Also, shoutout to Kiel Mutschelknaus and his Space Type Generator — used it to create the voices text pattern seen in a number of these examples.

The logotype is a fully custom monoline script — while it is meant to feel spirited, I also wanted to give it a precise technical construction.
