Design Thinking "Men Don't Cry"

For this project, I required to create an illustration for a stereotype in society, along with an illustration for a solution to that stereotype. I chose a stereotype about masculinity; we often hear statements like "men don't cry" in society. Some believe that this statement is not open-minded because it may make men feel uncomfortable expressing their emotions

Both pictures show a man looking at a grave. Graves symbolize deep grief, such as the loss of a loved one. The first picture shows the man not crying despite being under emotional pressure. There is no rule that says men shouldn't cry. These kinds of assumptions have been made historically by society. The right corner also has typography that says, "Men don't cry". In the picture, the typography resembles a hand representing society. People in society are represented by the fingers of the hand. You can see the hand winding the man in the picture. In symbolic terms, the wind symbolizes the belief that society gives to man. To solve this problem, I created another illustration. As you can see in the next illustration, the typography that looks like a hand has been replaced with the statement "Men do cry". It is society that bends the wind here and the man is crying as a result. Additionally, tears in the background of the illustration represent the man's freedom to weep.
