Website Development for Leiden Marathon
Modern Website Redesign to generate more submissions
Commissioned by Karstens Mediamakers, designed and developed by Rick Bierman Designs through a custom Wordpress solution. We used an Agile Method which consisted of multiple feedback rounds and communication with stakeholders to produce a great end-result.
Role
Rick Bierman Designs was responsible for the UI Design, Information Architecture, Wireframing, User Flow, and actual development of the website using a custom Wordpress theme.
The problem
How to redesign the outdated website of Leiden Marathon in such a way where it will entice the target audience in a larger way to sign-up for the upcoming runs?
The approach
Conducting User Research to understand the users motivation, needs and behaviour was a crucial step since it completely defined the design direction. Whilst working in an Agile environment, this first consisted of Wireframing and working on the Information Architecture. After getting approval on a Homepage Visual Design from the client, we moved to developing the website. In general, these were the steps which were needed from start to finish:
1. Creating a visual design based on the client's current website
2. Developing the site through a custom theme and blank Wordpress CMS
3. Filling the site with the content provided by the client
4. Using FileZilla to move the site to the live environment
The solution
After the website went live, a record number of signups for different Leiden Marathon runs came into fruition. The redesign was a monster success.
