Here is a concept for a character builder app, with fun colors and clean layout.

These 3 screens show a part of the user flow, starting with choosing from a variety of different styles of illustrations, to then choosing specific details of an illustration, as well as being able to define some personal preferences in a user profile screen.

Special attention to the tab bar with its central CTA button to quickly create an illustration.
