Pensacola FC - NPSL Home Page Design

Pensacola Football Club (PFC) is a semi-professional soccer club that offers a pathway for players that want to continue pursuing higher level play in a bigger region. The organization was in need of a new website that appeals to the greater Pensacola area fan-base. The site needed to offer ways for fans to find schedules, purchase tickets and learn about league results and club news.

My role in this project was senior visual designer and website builder. I worked with a small team that included the PFC marketing director, operations director and assistant coach. I used Adobe XD for page layout and Photoshop and Illustrator for asset development.

Like many small businesses, this client wanted a website but did not have any content to provide other than a logo, and some photos. After given these 2 items, I was asked to, "come up with something."

As a seasoned designer and website builder I knew I could design something great. I work in the soccer market and have been involved in travel soccer for over 10 years. So, in general, I know what the customer is looking for. That's one of the reasons they hired me to build this project.

But as a team player, I know that, "come up with something" is a trap. It can lead to wasted time, poor results, and overwhelming project-creep.

So I began to ask questions of the team and develop a requirements checklist. This allowed me to break down the project into tasks that I can track and have the client approve at each stage. I use click-up, a project management application, similar to Jira or Asana, to tasks and time.

We identified several items that we wanted users to be able to find easily right from the start. This included when and where the next match is, how to get tickets, team results and news as well as spirit-wear for purchase. Secondary items include players, sponsors and email collection.

These images represent the early design phase where I have attempted to get everything on the page in an easy-to-discover.
