EasyCrypto - Cryptocurrency Trading Application

Research

Research phase initiated with understanding the basics of the cryptocurrency industry instead of jumping straight into the design process with half baked knowledge. It included understanding the plus point of similar applications and the pain points of the interested users.

User Research

I conducted interviews and surveys with our target demographic and am confident that EasyCrypto is reaching a specific demographic that is in need of this application. I also have great competitive apps like Binance, WazirX and Kite as examples of simplified investment technology.

After conducting the interviews and compiling the survey results, I started working on creating a User Persona for our target users to get the requirements straight. Our target users are most likely new to the crypto market and require handholding and education to start trading.

After finalizing the requirements and pain points of our target users, I started creating a simplified flow for our users to get onboarded into EasyCrypto and then start buying cryptocurrency with simple steps to look at the stats of different coins and then start building their portfolio.

The goals set to achieve with EasyCrypto are as follows:

  • Simplified Crypto currency application

  • Less steps to get to trading

  • Less Complex statistics

  • Tutorials and Information about Crypto for the beginners

Wireframes

After finalizing an efficient way for our users to start trading using EasyCrypto, it was time to start giving a face to the application. It started with low fidelity sketches of how the different features would be placed on the screen so that they are clearly accessible to the users. After multiple iterations of the screen sketches, I worked on creating the high fidelity version of the following screens to get some users opinion on the designed flow.

The time taken to work on various wireframes and then asking users to get opinion about the flow helped me to get an efficient set of wireframes which further made the process of adding the visual effects on the screens a very simple process

The onboarding process is kept minimal so that the user does not get intimidated at the start of the process. The user just have to simply create an account to get to the home screen, they are not required to add their payment information at the start. They can get to the home screen to first understand the application and then decide whether they want to start trading using EasyCrypto.

After onboarding, the first screen the user will see is the Dashboard where the wallet card is present displaying the user's wallet amount along with the information about the most trending cryptocurrency in the market. If the user wants to learn more about the crypto they can further click on Learn More to go to the coin page.

Below the wallet card, the user can find important information about the different cryptocurrencies in the market and further click on them to go to their specific coin page for further in depth information and stats.

On the coin page, the main information is the daily, weekly, monthly and yearly trend chart of the specific crypto. The user can then further read about the coin, look at the most important market statistics along with whether the other users are buying/selling/holding the cryptocurrency. At the bottom of the screen, the user can also be up-to-date with the latest news about the crypto.

The process of buying/selling a cryptocurrency is pretty straight forward. After deciding, the user can click on Buy button, they will then be shown the market price of 1 unit of the cryptocurrency. The user can then enter the unit of crypto they want to buy to build their portfolio, the USD currency will be displayed to user. They can then preview their order details and then confirm the order.

Prototype

After working on the UI of EasyCrypto, I worked on joining the screens with efficient and elegant motion between them to get them ready for usability testing. The final prototype can be viewed by clicking on the following link:

What I learned through this experience

Working on this project was a unique experience for me as I got to learn about a new and trending industry and then build an application based on what I learnt.

I learnt about designing intuitively in order to create a sense of familiarity among users.

Thank you a lot for reading my case study !

I would love to hear your thoughts and feedback to improve my UX / UI skills.
