Union Jack Pub

I developed a new identity for the Union Jack Pub in Broad Ripple, Indianapolis. UJP has been an institution in the Broad Ripple area since 1979 and they wanted a freshened mark that spoke to their repeat customers but could also draw in some fresh faces. Because there are many areas where the previous mark is literally built into the building, I felt I needed to connect with that somehow so the shape of the former logo is the shape of the new icon. That icon features a hybrid Union Jack with the Indianapolis city flag. Also in the past UJP used pizza peels for menus and still has a large pizza menu in addition to their upscale English/American offerings. A simple silhouette of a pizza peel is the signoff at the bottom of the mark.

It was an awesome experience designing the new logo for the resturant/pub that opened my eyes to what a great city Indianapolis actually is when I first moved here. I thought it was all chains and fast food, but UJP was one of the first places that I found that was unique to Indy and offered some great food, beer, and people.
