Hyatt Lodge in Oak Brook, Illinois

Buildings and walking paths were key ingredients requested for this map.

I started the map in QGIS, an open-source geographic information system software that can display satellite imagery and provides drawing an labeling tools. From QGIS, I exported the map in SVG format to create the finished version in Affinity Designer.

Like Adobe Illustrator, Designer includes tools to add raster textures and effects to its predominantly hard-edged vector drawing environment. In this map, I used a raster brush to paint white into the lake surfaces. If you look closely, near the road that cuts across the water, there's a waterfall.

Ultimately, this map was to be printed and handed to guests to use when out walking the property paths.
