Sumerians

Vibrant Sumerians invented nutrient-rich beer and a popular calendar

Between the Euphrates and Tigris rivers lived history’s original brewers. Best known for inventing cuneiform script, Sumerian civilisation in southern Mesopotamia, which today is Iraq, made its noblest contribution in the field of writing. Sumerians created a lunar calendar with a day of 24 hours and a week of 7 days. Their lunar calendar was adopted by Semites, the Egyptians and the Greeks. The Sumerian calendar was absorbed into the Babylonian calendar.
