Blanton Invitational 2014
Every year we have a family reunion around the 4th of July, that for the past three decades has also played hosted to our annual golf tournament for the the family. The Blanton Invitational all started out as a way to have family come together doing something that my grandfather and his siblings grew up doing and loved - golfing. Tradition and family, in my opinion, are synonymous with each other and are revered with the utmost respect in my eyes. Every year, a different family is the host of the event and this past year I was asked by my cousin to take over creating the awards for the event. I was truly humbled by his request because his late father, my great-uncle, was one of the founding members of the golf tournament and had designed all of the awards and trophies for the event up until his health wouldn’t allow him to - at which point my cousin, with a heavy heart, proudly carried on his father’s legacy. I’ve always looked up to the both of them, they were extraordinarily passionate creatives who never ceased to inspire me with what they were able to create, so to have the distinct privilege of carrying on this tradition was an opportunity I proudly accepted.
