Chris Dickerson Mascot Merch

Chris Dickerson has become one of my favorite players to watch on the Disc Golf Pro Tour. He seems so calm and collected out there. He has two really solid nicknames that describe just how far and precise he can throw a disc, Robot Chicken & Limestone Laser.

Needless to say, I was stoked when Discraft reached out to develop a couple of illustrations for the launch of his new apparel and website. Follow along to see some more details of my process and the final pieces!

After I nail down the vision and inspiration for the project I move on to sketching. Sometimes I can be pretty direct and know where I am going early on but for this project I really wanted to take my time and draw a bunch of different robot arms, hands, nuts and bolts, etc. so that I felt I could really run with the best ideas.

After I sketch on pencil and paper I move on to refining my ideas on Procreate. For the Limestone Laser design I knew I wanted to make a cartoon version of Chris so I kept it pretty straight forward and lighthearted. For Robot Chicken it made sense to make a hybrid chicken/robot, like something a villain farmer would've made in a vintage cartoon.

After the illustrations were finished, I handed them off to the in-house team to finalize the t-shirt layouts.
