According to the Hindu mythology,

Lord Brahma after creating the Earth he was disappointed with the complete silence and loneliness of everyone.

To break this silence, he created an angel with a veena in her hand & blessed the people of the Earth. She is the Goddess of knowledge, music & art who provides voice, intelligence and glory.
