The Optimist magazine - January 2022

The Optimist is a journal for PhD students by PhD students. We bring out a new edition every four months discussing a whole range of topics such as how to deal with publication pressure and tips on how to live a happy PhD.

This issue tackles the problems that PhD students encounter when they finish their projects. Topics such as career development and options outside of academia sound like very complex matters to PhD students, however, there are people out there offering help to students so that they can find success. There is life after a PhD. In a certain way academia can be understood as a straight line, where the student is mainly focused in getting their grades and move onto doing a PhD. However, there is light that when shed upon a career can help people discover many other options for their future, in this case, represented as the light coming from the lantern.
