Newspaper ad for Laszlo Cravensworth Postcard
I designed another ad for The Graveyard Shift inspired by classified newspaper ads.
I've been meaning to get my What We Do In The Shadows cards printed for over a year. After doing a couple of test prints of the original drawings I found that the color halftones come out a little blurry and messy. To get the result I wanted I created my own brushes that printed clear dots as they're resized smaller. Some of my research to figure out the angle for yellow, cyan, and magenta was visiting flea markets to find vintage comics and books. I probably could have found the formula on the Internet but I took it was a chance to build my own library of vintage printed materials. It took most of the Summer to create the brushes and sometimes it was a frustrating experience trying to get a seamless pattern. When finally finished I then had to redraw and recolor the original portraits. The final illustrations are slightly different from the original, a slight change in color or adding more of their clothing.
Overall, it was a great learning experience and I'm happy with the final printed result.
You can find the Laszlo Cravensworth and other What We Do In The Shadows characters as postcards in my shop.
