'Dune' by Frank Herbert – Cover Concept
I'm very excited for the new Dune film to be released (so sad it's not till October!) and it made me think of how fun it would be to put together a book cover concept my own. As with most of my work I tend to play with a lot of negative space and big bold colors and the world of Arakis with it's sandy expanses made for the perfect setting.
I focused on a lot of the details for this one, like the subtle shades of cyan and violet in the sky, getting the right intense shade of orange to provide a contrast, as well as the object in the background, which could be a mountain or could be a sandworm.
For the type, I wanted to pay homage to the covers of the 60s and 70s, choosing Cubao (https://www.behance.net/gallery/66665127/Cubao-Free-Display-Typeface) which I felt gave a sense of charm and quirk. It was fun to play around with a mix of photos and text to find that right balance of objects, really happy with how this one turned out.
