February 2021 Monthly Mix

The mix series continues this month with a soundtrack for February that has a “future-retro” theme. I curated a diverse mix of some more introspective tunes with others that are more upbeat (some ominous, some bliss-tinged). This one has something for everyone to love– neon synths, soaring vocals, piano ballads, heavy beats, shoegaze anthems, & more.

The artwork was crafted to match the refined song selection, as well as to hearken back to the month of February and its related concepts, without being too cliché. So, I tastefully applied some cupid and bow-and-arrow imagery. I wanted a vibe that recalls classy 1980’s gothic cover art, with colors that help to offset the dark edges. The result is a serious, yet euphoric visual experience– a perfect match for the musical cross-section represented within the mix.

Funnily enough, the inspiration for this mix came when I stumbled upon two fonts that I am absolutely enamored with– Democratica , by Miles Newlyn , and Jana Thork Pro by Ricardo Esteves Gomes.
