Mobile App Onboarding

Onboarding serves as a first contact between the user and your app. It should be helpful and engaging to your audience.

However, depending on your app and requirements consider dropping promotional onboarding entirely. Instead use these screens on the app store page or on your website.

Otherwise, here are some tips for onboarding screens:

- Show only to first-time users (except when launching new features or major redesigns)
- Use short and clear copy
- Use meaningful illustrations to breathe life into your UI
- Use a progress indicator
- Strive to tailor the onboarding to the user’s context, preferences and needs
- Keep onboarding as simple and unobtrusive as possible (e.g. don’t use lots of screens)
