Osamu Shimomura

A biographical poster dedicated to the work of chemist and marine biologist Osamu Shimomura. He was a Nobel laureate for the discovery of GFP researching Aequorea victoria, a species of jellyfish. GFP is used for tracking biological processes in cells. I was captivated by his passion in the subject, so I wanted to illuminate his story.

My goal for this project was to immerse the viewer into the fluorescent world that captivated Osamu Shimomura, and recreate that experience. I wanted to evoke the notion of movement through water using images of jellyfish. The text is integrated with the imagery and works to guide the eye throughout the poster.
