Planar Head

Planar Head is a simplified 3D model of the human Head. It is used to teach Fine Art Students how to draw the Head's anatomy. The intricate curves, angles, and shadow gradients of the human Head are reduced to plain planares with sharp angles. Humans find it easier to draw straight lines than curves; thus, they found the planar head structure easier to grasp and copy.

Named after the 3D Model, PlanarHead VR is an application that teaches its users how to draw life or still life. As its name applies, it is a virtual reality application. When the user puts the VR glasses on their Head, they immediately led to a virtual studio where they meet Planar Head—their teacher.
At its core, PlanarHead is an art teacher. It belongs to the future, but it has been here since the days where humans have resembled apes in their appearance. It has all the knowledge aggregated and nurtured by millions of people since the dawn of humanity. But, it also uses its intelligence to draw supplementary conclusions and generate new knowledge. It learns from its students (using deep learning models) and uses their feedback to improve its skills, teaching methods, and capabilities. Planar Head grows with its students.

David invented Planar Head when he was taking art classes and encountered many students' challenges in these classes. He is now working on a prototype and a crowd-funding campaign.

The design process started by Creating a Planar Head in Maya and extracting it as an image to photoshop. Illustrator was used to creating some of the background elements; the layout was done with InDesign. The purpose of the design was to reflect the idea that this is a futuristic yet artistic invention.
