TECHNIQ

TECHNIQ is a responsive recipe web app created during my UI course at CareerFoundry. The assignment was to create a recipe app.

My biggest pet-peeve when teaching myself to bake was all of the incorrect, incomplete, or difficult to understand information online. In my search to learn this skill, I ended up buying textbooks meant for students in pastry school and wanted to bring that same knowledge to my app. In the process, I realized a web app with well-researched recipes wasn’t enough. To make this skill easily accessible to users, I needed to create a learning app with a curriculum that could take a complete beginner all the way through to an advanced level in a stress-free and informed way.

TECHNIQUE is meant to remove barriers preventing someone from learning to bake by using accurate science and easy to understand language, explaining how and why things are done. TECHNIQ allows users to search for reliable recipes, save favorites, or select from a variety of baking courses. Every recipe and lesson includes background information and explores proper tools and ingredients as well as their alternatives. Each recipe includes videos, technique walkthroughs, and a troubleshooting guide with videos and images so users can assess their final product. As the user progresses, different levels and recipes are unlocked and multiple skills can be learned at the same time as long as the prerequisite recipes have been completed.
