KOZJAK LAKE (Macedonia Beauties)

Kozjak - an artificial lake in Western Macedonia, the largest in the country, located between Mount Suva Gora in the west and the reserve "Jasen" in the east. The lake is 32 km long, 130 m deep somewhere, and the maximum distance from one shore to the other is 400 m. There are two paths to the lake: the southern approach to the lake leads from Makedonski Brod and extends along the river Treska. The other approach is from Skopje and the road extends under the southern slopes of Vodno. The lake was created in 2004, when the Kozjak hydropower plant started operating, with a capacity of 150 gigawatt-hours of average annual electricity production. The entire storage system was designed by Chinese engineers. The base of the dam is 500 m, and the crown or top is 310 m. The maximum elevation of the lake is 469.9 m. The capacity of the lake is approximately 0.38 km3 of water.
