Heuristic Rule 06 - E-commerce

Heuristics Rule Number 6 “Recognition rather than recall” ---------------------------------------------------- Minimize the user’s memory load by making objects, actions, and options visible. The user should not have to remember information from one part of the dialogue to another. Instructions for use of the system should be visible or easily retrievable whenever appropriate.

The recently viewed item on the home screen will remind the user about her/his last searches and items needed to buy. These kinds of approaches would help to reduce the use of the user’s memory.

Recalling the number in the exact sequence is hard for users. Chunking information in field form card numbers will make it easier to process and understand.

List of suggestions as user types based on recent searches and related most searches would help to reduce the use of the user’s memory.

When conducting a Heuristic Evaluation on interface design that is intended to find usability problems at heuristic point number 6, Recognition rather than recall. I usually make a question like the following:

1. Whether the user is given a list of products or pages just viewed?

2. Is the user given special content based on previous actions?

3.Is the user given navigation items that reduce cognitive content or are easy to understand / intuitive?

Feel free for leaving your comments, constructive feedback is welcome. 🙏
