Daily UI :: 003
For Day 4's landing page challenge from DailyUI, I decided to redesign The Infatuation's landing page. The Infatuation is a company that helps you find restaurants perfect for any situation. I felt that the current website (www.theinfatuation.com/new-york) needed a refresh because of the following:
Issue 1: The type is too small, making it very hard to read
Issue 2: The search area could have been better designed - the faded picture with small text on top makes the image too busy
Issue 3: Knowing that The Infatuation differentiates themselves from other restaurant search competitors by providing ultra-relatable and funny guides like "Where To Take Your In-Laws" or "Where To Break Up With Someone," their landing page does not immediately show new users why they're different from anyone else.
In my redesign I addressed:
Issue 1: By enlarging all the text and using only two typefaces instead of the four found in the original. The text is much easier to read and the hierarchy of elements is easier to understand.
Issue 2: By creating something that gives more oomph in the cover with a large statement on the left that immediately tells users that this is a restaurant search directory. This is supplemented with a map to show where The Infatuation's editors have reviewed.
Issue 3: By implementing right underneath the search bar, chips that say "Dog Friendly" or "Affordable", which immediately clues users in that they can search for very specific things - something other restaurant search companies don't offer.
