Book Cover Illustration for Harry van Roekel

Harry van Roekel approached me to design the cover of his new book. The book is about aging, lasting doubts about gay sexuality and daughters that may or may not be yours.

The book is called Zand (sand) because the Veluwe is full of it. That is also where the book is set. In addition, Sand is also a symbol of time and has the property to slip through in between. Sand is also a remnant of a mountain. In short, it is a versatile material with a lot of symbolism. Just like the contents of the book. I tried to extend that symbolism in my design.
