Hearts and Flowers

The idea for this one came to me one afternoon while I was working out in my backyard. I was swiping through songs for my next set when I came across “Come Home” by One Republic. I hadn’t heard it in a long time, so I decided to play it and started rope skipping.

I got into such a rhythm that I could really focus on the chorus: “Come home, Come home, ‘cause I’ve been waiting for you, for so long, for so long.”

I was transported back to my home country of Georgia, reliving the memory of when we used to visit our relatives during the summer. Moments I will cherish as long as I live. Memories so vivid, thinking about them feels like I’m right there with the people I love the most.

The song ended and when I snapped out of it, it hit me so hard I stopped jumping. No matter how far you are from each other. You’ll always be connected to your loved ones through your memories.

But I just had to be pessimistic about it too. No matter how cristal clear those memories are, you can never revisit them. All you can do is sit in your chair and zap through. Never truly holding someone you can’t hold anymore. I’ll never be young again and play soccer with my nephews. I can’t go back to those nights of staring at the stars while talking with my niece for hours and hours.

All we really have are these small gems in our minds. But we can access them whenever we want, and we should count ourselves lucky for having lived those moments in the first place.
