Elephants are huge and powerful creatures, but sometimes they do rather strange things. Scientists in Namibia have been observing their behavior for 7 years and could not understand why sometimes elephants abruptly turn around and go in the opposite direction. The answer was quite simple. Thanks to their acute hearing, elephants are able to catch the sounds of a thunderstorm beginning at a great distance from them. This allows them to change the direction of their movement and be able to drink water in such arid lands.
