Skanda, also known as Wei Ditian, was originally a Brahmin god, and was later absorbed by Buddhism as one of the law-protecting heavens. In Chinese temples, it is usually placed behind the Maitreya Buddha in the Temple of the Heavenly King, facing the Buddha statue of Sakyamuni.
