Product Design Engineer

Job description

Major League Hacking is looking for a remote, contract Product Design Engineer to join the team responsible for building the products that help aspiring software engineers level up and launch their careers. The software that you and your team write will power the largest community of early career developers in the world and help redefine the future of work & technical education.

Responsibilities:

  • Design Rich User Experiences. You’ll be the primary designer for our user experiences and product. You’ll be speaking to our team and end users to create and implement components, page layouts, and interactive elements. You will have access to illustrators on our team for visual art and assets.

  • Write Code. You’ll work closely with the rest of our engineers to turn your designs into beautiful, functional code that our users enjoy interacting with. You’ll use Figma, React, and TailwindCSS to implement frontends for a Ruby on Rails backend.

  • Build WYSIWYG Marketing Sites. You’ll be responsible for designing and implementing UI components in headless and headed CMS platforms for our marketing-centric web-properties.

  • Contribute to our Engineering Culture. Your contributions will help shape a world-class engineering culture that values shipping high-quality software. You'll implement and benefit from industry best-practices including code reviews, pair programming, CI/CD, testing, and more.

Job requirements

  • Experience with React JS and Tailwind CSS, we’re a Rails & React shop

  • Ability to use Figma to design components and implement them in React

  • Experience in TDD and modern development practices

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Impeccable organizational and project management skills

  • An interest in reimagining the future of education and work

  • Ability to be online for synchronous meetings with the rest of the engineering team from 9am-1pm EST. Async work may take place out of that time block, as our team is globally distributed.
